The Government will provide £2m of new funding to help boroughs and voluntary organisations set up their own summer universities. DfES also expects to announce a generous offer shortly from a charitable foundation which will provide a further significant boost to this project. Thousands of 11-16 year olds in boroughs across London will have the chance to learn and have fun throughout the summer through this new network of innovative Summer Universities. They will provide a wide range of courses such as new media, performing and visual arts, music, study and explore, work zone, sports and fitness, information technology, personal development, entertainment and peer volunteer initiatives.
